Where Was This Photo Taken?
Elysian Park and Mount Washington
Pierce's title of the photo is "Los Angeles, Looking North from Elysian Park showing Los Angeles River and Mt. Washington." Elysian Park is South-East of Mount Washington, separated by the River. This area is the southern portion of the Glendale Narrows
Point of Land Jutting Into L.A. River
The original photo has a distinctive peninsula, jutting into the water at a sharp angle. The original appears to have been painted on, perhaps to make the water more distinctive.Â
Similar point, between Elysian Park and Mount Washington
A similar portion of the western shore of the River juts northward at a sharp angle, at the end of Harwood St.
Approximated line, showing the angle at which Pierce took the photo, with Pierce being in the bottom left corner, with his lens trained towards the upper right.
A note on accuracy:
There are several issues with correctly placing this photo:
Described as facing North from Elysian Park, the angle of the photo appears more Westerly
The large white house seen just off-center-center to the left would make sense as being that of the 1905 construction at 901 Isabel St., however, that home has columns
that would face the lens if this placing is correct.
